Of Time

Exhibition at de Montigny Contemporary, suite 101, 858 Bank Street, Ottawa, Ontario

January 16 to February 14 2026 with reception on January 16 from 6 to 8 pm.

Of Time considers plant material at different points throughout the growing season, bringing multiple phases of growth into a single image. The work moves beyond a binary narrative of decline or renewal, offering instead an expanded sense of duration.

What happens when a part becomes disassociated from the whole? Petals fallen from the flower invite an exploration of new territory, one separated from the structure of belonging. As form breaks down, new associations and contextual meanings emerge. In this moment of political and cultural disruption, amid the dissolution of our shared foundations, I explore what arises when systems collapse.

Attuned to the endings all around us, I examine what remains. This series investigates what is revealed through the process of disintegration.

The point of view is low, as if the viewer is part of the scene, surrounded and implicated within the space of the garden. A garden, after all, is a human construct: a site of intimate encounter between the one who tends and the one who grows.

To look from the level of the earth is to engage with the more-than-human world, witnessing both the lush freshness of a new bud and the dry, crisp edges of a dying plant.

The end of the growing season mirrors the cycles of all living things, including ourselves. Most of us struggle to face endings, especially our own or those of our loved ones. Yet this work invites a full engagement—not only with the dazzling beauty of the garden in full bloom, but also with the quiet grace of decline. In these times of climatic, social, and cultural upheaval, I find both solace and insight in observing the garden’s subtle transitions. By focusing on dissolution and decay, I seek to offer a vantage point that recognizes and values beauty in decline.
